Beyond Moving is a feature documentary about Siphe November, an exceptionally talented ballet dancer from South Africa. The documentary follows his journey, from being discovered while dancing in the hard township of Zolani, to his intensive training at Canada’s National Ballet School, to eventually stepping into the world of professional ballet.
The film goes beyond capturing the elegance of the art form, creating a visual dialogue between Siphe and the medium. Beyond Moving, in essence, is the story of overcoming challenges and obstacles through art; it is about a family’s love and sacrifice, a young man’s drive and courage, and the difference a community on the other side of the world can make in shaping an extraordinary person’s life. It is a film that breaks stereotypes while paying homage to dance and its transformative abilities.
